Why wait for the fair! Make elephant ears all year round!
My kids helped me with this recipe, it was fun!

INGREDIENTS:
6 tablespoons shortening
1-1/2 cups milk
2 tablespoons sugar
2 - 1/4 ounce packets yeast  (or 2 tablespoons)
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups vegetable oil for frying
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cinnamon  (can add more cinnamon for liking, but I like a bit less)
1 gallon zip lock bag

DIRECTIONS:
First  over medium heat in small pan, melt shortening, salt, milk and 2 tablespoons sugar. When shortening starts to melt, stir continuously until all mixed and melted.

Remove from burner and LET SIT FOR 10 MINUTES! Add yeast, mix, and let sit for 3 minutes

In a large mixing bowl add the 4 cups of flour. Then pour the yeast mixture over the flour and mix until combined.

Knead until well combined and can transform into a smooth elastic ball.

Put back into large bowl and cover for 30 minutes.

Next heat 2 cups of oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

Take your dough and roll out 3 inch balls into a circle (try to get large enough for the size of your frying pan)

Mix the 3/4 cups of sugar and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon into a zip lock bag and shake to mix.

Fry each side of the elephant ear for 1-2 minutes. If too brown too fast, turn down your heat!

Drain onto paper towels for 2 minutes. (If kids help, you get lots of cool shapes:)

Then add to ziplock bag, shake, and place on a plate.

Enjoy!
